Nancy O’Malley (Employer)

“Given the nature of our role and responsibilities in our county, the work can be very demanding and needs to be done with integrity, honesty and accuracy.” said Nancy O’Malley, Alameda County District Attorney. Fortunately, “Brianna has been incredibly successful in every task she has undertaken. She is a productive member of our community and an asset to this office.” As are the three other individuals that the District Attorney’s office employs as part of their ongoing efforts to increase opportunities for people with disabilities and add to the richness of their workplace diversity. These efforts earned Nancy O’Malley recognition as HireAble employer award recognition in 2018.

When Brianna graduated from East Bay Innovation’s first Project SEARCH job training class hosted by the County of Alameda, she was ready to go to work. It took time to secure full-time employment, but today Brianna is gainfully employed in Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley’s office.

Brianna weekday routine begins with a 5:30 a.m. wakeup to take public transportation to work, where she prepares a detailed “trial sheet” for the many criminal and civil court cases being heard that day. Manning the busy front counter of the Alameda County District Attorney’s office, handling mail, and answering the phones are also daily responsibilities.

Brianna is extremely hard-working, dedicated to her job, and is embracing its challenges with increasing confidence. It helps, too, that she loves her job. If you ask Brianna what she likes most about working at the District Attorney’s office, she’ll quickly tell you it’s helping people. As someone on the autism spectrum, she herself has received support, and it’s important to her to provide a service to others who need assistance. When she’s not at work, Brianna reads fiction, dances to pop tunes, and winds down with soothing music in her apartment, which is just a five-minute walk from the family home she grew up in. Brianna’s long-held dream of living independently and having a job she loves is now her reality.
